An affluent med ical profes sor, Kom iya, a nd his boss y wife, Tokio, are to look after Setsuko, their high -spirited niece from O saka. Sets uko is a li berate d woman who does what she w ants, including smoking, even though she is a minor . On Sat urday, the professo r does not feel like going to his weeken d golf g ame, but his wife pac ks him off anyw ay. So h e leave s his b ag at the apartment o f hi s student Okada, and goes to a ba r wit h a friend . Setsuko traces him there, and insists that he take her to a geisha hou se. When she get s rath er tipsy, the p rofessor ca lls Okada to take her h ome, while he sleeps at Okada's. The wife becomes suspi cious of Setsuko whe n she sees Okad a bringin g her h ome, and also of her husband whe n she discovers that he did not go golfing.
