Synopsis Do-seong (Y oo Min) is a child mon k who lives at a smal l mountain temple with th e head mon k (Byeon Ki-j ong), lear ning the teachings of Budd ha. He b ecomes attached to a young widow (Choi Eun-hee) who comes to pray at the templ e, and the childless widow entre ats the head monk to l et her raise Do- seon g as her own son. Conf lict ensues when Do-seon g's real mot her (Kim Seo n-young) appears, but sh e leaves th e temp le for the sake of her s on's future. On the day the widow is to take the child down from the mountain , the head monk di scovers that Do-seong ha s killed a bird b y ensnaringit in a trap and de cides not to let the boy go into the secular wor ld. The long shots utilized by director of cinematography Han Hyung-mo to cap ture the beautiful scenery of the mountain t emple from a distance received great critical acclaim at the time. Also, each of the film's characters is convincing ly por trayed throu gh the skil lful direction of Y oon Y ong-kyu.
