A failed, recluse dire ctor, Ma x, moves from New York City to a small seaside town afte r his wife's death. He str uggles wi th his pa rental role over his son . Eddie, meanwh ile, is bec oming inc reasingly involved in the n ot-s o-undergrou nd culture of drugs, pro miscuous sex, and gang violen ce that lies there. The chasm between them seems to be g rowing despite Max's best efforts. Max jogs in the mornin gs and routine ly passes a psychic. She spontaenously predicts that one night a serial killer will attack Eddie on t he beach. Eddie is s ampling various drugs with his fri end, Smiley, and having unprotected se x. He ignores t he advi ce of his father as a rule and seems beyond hope of redemptio n in the eyes of mainstream society. He shows potential for betterment when he prevents the mu rder of a rival gang member. Max saves E ddie from the serial killer
