This is an unusual film of exceptional values--7 5 minutes long i n color, w ith hardly any sp oken dialogs. I saw t his Irania n fi lm in Farsi wi thout E ngli sh subtitles at the Early Irani an cinema retrospect ive on-going Interna tional Film Festiva l of Kera la, India. That I was watching a print without subtitles did n ot make a difference as there were very few lines of spoken dialogs. Th is is a ver y acce ssible film for an y audience to e njoy--its story and va lues are not merely Iranian, it 's universal. The film is set in rural Iran that had not tasted p etro-dollar prosper ity. The setting is on fringes of desert land, w here water is scar ce, rainfal l scanty and hardl y an y blade of grass is gr een. Add to it wind and d ust that buffets and whips man and animal and you can imagine plight of the pe ople who live on the fring es o f society. The f ilm is moving ta le of a yo ung teenage r returning to his vi llage wi th a goat--only to find his family an d villagers have move d on to escape na tures vagaries and t hat one old man remains.
