Min Ji-suk runs a tic ket barwhe re customers can purchase t ickets for cer tain service sin the town of Sokcho i n Gangwon- do. She hires Miss Yan g (Ahn So-young), Mi ss Hong (Lee Hye- young), and Se-young (J eon Se-young ) thr ough the employment agency. Miss Yang a nd Miss Hong, who are well experienced in this t ype of bu siness, are used to a ccept ing propo sitio ns from cu stomers. But Se-young, who is dating a college student named Min-s u, rejects all re quests for sexual fav ors. When Min-s u professes to h aving problems with his tu ition and fina nces, Se-y oung re assures hi m that she will procure the necessary funds for h im. Whe n the bar's clientele begins to dwind le b ecaus e of Se -young, Ji- suk re priman ds her seve rely. Se-y oung develops a close relati onship with a Captain P ak and even allows him to sleep with her. She asks Captain Pak to find Min-su em ployment on a bo at, but w hen M in-su comes to Sokc ho for his new job, h e sees how Se-young has been making her living. Shocked, he tur ns his back on the job and l eaves. When he eventuall y returns to So kcho, he scathingly denounces Se-young's morality and severs thei r relationship. Decades ago, Ji-suk had stumbled into the bar bu siness in a desperate effort to s upport her husband, who was serv ing time in prison ; she later left him vol untarily out of shame and moral de gradation. Concerne d that S e-young will end up with the same fate, Ji-suk asks Min -su to meet with her. She begs him not to abandon Se-young , but he fla tly refus es. Ji-suk reacts by p ushing Min-su into th e sea, a nd suffer s a men tal breakdo wn that lands her in a psych iatr ic institut ion.
