He was a lso writing a bo ok a bout his most memorabl e cases, including one about the un solved death of an 8-year-old gir l some 18 years ago . Th e suspect in th at ca se, Fr ederick Red path, wa s at Hil lian's house the day he died and that chapter from the manuscr ipt is mis sing. There are othe r suspects however, including Hillian's ghost wri ter who will no w recei ve all of the book's royalties; a handyman who wa s working on the property; a nd Redpath's daughter, who knew the litt le girl who was killed a ll those years b efore. Morse comes into con flict with wit h a collea gue DCI Dawson, who was on e of Hillian's protégés, as t hey again look into the little girl's death.
