Moving to the capi tal, she works first of all in a hairdressing salon, then in a small cine ma where she manages t o get a job working in fan cy d ress. Meantime, she socializes with young men of the upp er mi ddle classes, who take her to parties and out on the town with the sol e aim of taking advantage of h er. Adrian a knows their gam e, but plays along. In the m eantime, she meets an agent c alled Cianfanna, a modest money- grubber who introduces her to a jo urnalist friend of his s o he can write an article on her . Having thus launched her career in advert ising, Adria na decides to go home to visit her parents. Once home, however, she is distraugh t to learn o f the death of her si ster . Retur ning to Rome, she takes acting lessons, but during one lesson s he su ddenly faints she is pregnant, with no idea of who the father o f her ch ild is. Th e day s go by and Adriana tries to forget about her pregna ncy, while sleeping wi th an increasingly l ong list of lovers .
